ENVIRONMENTAL INSTILLATION ART EXHIBITIONS

The power of Asay/Davis sculpture is most fully experienced through art exhibitions held in museums and art centers. To date, in some 20 solo shows, individual installation pieces combine to produce a fresh approach to sculptural form with an impact that draws rave reviews from both viewers and museum staff.

Museum and gallery exhibitions are the core of Asay and Davis’ environmental art.

These solo shows bring together in the same space a variety of individual works using natural materials; each sculpture is made of a specific material found in nature and is often titled by the location where that was collected.  In SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN ASPEN undulating aspen poles lean against a wall; in VERDE RIVER STONES, SEPARATED richly varied river stone is sorted by color and size.  Each exhibit has focused largely on materials found in the nearby mountains or streams of the museum venue. In the simple museum setting, the organic richness of the sands, gravels, sticks or branches are set off to full advantage.

The artists seek to create in each work a spiritual connection to the raw essence of nature.  Careful placement of these sculptures within an exhibition space creates a dynamic visual experience, where each sculpture gains power by its interaction with the others.  The exhibition as a whole becomes a sculpture in itself inviting the viewer into its space.
